Cole had an actual shitty childhood and his mom would never tell him who his real father was. He got as far away as he could once he turned 18. He might feel some sympathy for her, but nothing beyond that.

Barb and Bob's other kids hate(d) them both. Bob's son didn't even tell him he had a granddaughter until she was like 8 and Bob's daughter didn't even attend his funeral. Cole, as mentioned, hates his mother and never ever mentions her
