Here's the Mitchell MST3K:

For what it's worth, I think it's the best Joel one. There's something about how 70s that movie is, that just sticks with me.

The ones bother to remember from his era were that and the 80s one involving the rock band.
The only reason Manos got famous was because it was so bad Joel actually started getting mad at the movie.

Mike is a good right winger, but Bill Corbett is the true hero of that show. If only for telling Spoony to go hang himself.

Agreed. Mitchell is a great one. So are Space Mutiny, Puma Man, and The Final Sacrifice. They had a lot of duds that were long stretches of boring with the occasional funny moment though. MST3K is a lot more hit and miss than fanboys will ever let on, and was really dependent on the entertainment level of the B movie, as has been said before. I think part of why Manos was remembered so much is because it was such an utterly bizarre mess. It's basically outsider art, except the long stretches of boring filler need to be cut to make it watchable.

I'm still convinced that it was memed as "the worst movie ever" so hard by critics because it's basically an art house movie. Change nothing about it but put Alexandro Jodorowsky as the director's name and Adam Furfag et al. would rate it as better than The Holy Mountain.

Or make a shot-for-shot remake with a more diverse cast. Instant Oscar bait.

Shitty quality aside, Manos tells a pretty disturbing story: the family gets converted to the cult, the little girl becomes one of the "wives", dad becomes new Torgo - unlike many B-movies, that's actually a realistic premise and conclusion.

Oh yeah, the most realistic part was when the dad shot Manos repeatedly with no effect, not even damage to his robes. And Torgo's swollen thighs. It's basically a documentary.

People join cults in real life because they want to, not because some meth head with a porn stache and a funky robe advances on them and the scene cuts away. Why do so many people believe that brainwashing is some kind of IRL magic spell? It only works when people want to believe or are mentally incapable of resisting, like children mentally ill people, and liberals, and sometimes drugs are involved. But people who are violently opposed don't just get instantly "converted" like what happens in Manos. There's clear implications in the movie that everything happens because of supernatural shit caused by Mexican Satan, or whatever the hell Manos is supposed to be. Mexican Satan brainwashing powers are not realistic, Mr. Reddit.

The Final Sacrifice, Touch of Satan, and German Hamlet are the best episodes in the series. (All Mike of course.)

SEVEN YEARS LATER. "Seven years after the credits?"

Soundtrack is pure kino.
"It looks like everybodies last known photo."
Manos is the creepiest unscary scary movie there is.
