In the lead up to the book release, she mentioned that there were parts she had to rewrite because while they made sense to her, the agent and publisher were confused. But I don't remember her mentioning an editor, or if she used Nella and Todd as alpha readers (regular people who read the early drafts and give feedback based on how the audience might respond).

Just as a quick glance, I'm reminded of the 'writers' I knew who didn't understand multiple drafts. They assume that the first draft is always the final and while they'll go back and fix some spelling mistakes or reword a sentence, they refuse to do full rewrites on sections that don't work because then that would lead to other parts needing a rewrite. And they can't comprehend rewriting an entire novel they just finished so they assume that that's just how it has to be.

This is one of the leading causes of writers block, they're trying to make the first draft perfect instead of throwing in some bullshit and fixing it later.

The first draft is always shit. Whether you take 100 years to write it or bang it out in an afternoon, the first draft is always shit. That's why you plan for innumerable drafts and you enlist fresh eyes to look at your writing. Only smug cunts who think their shit doesn't stink would refuse a rewrite. So basically, Lindsay. Yes, rewrites are a lot of work. Yes, it takes a long time. Yes, it is worth it. You end up with a draft that you can be somewhat proud of, rather than an unpolished mess that reads like your private ego masturbation material.

Nah. News was always corrupt and liars. We just know it easier now. Seriously Walter Duranty of the New York Times won a Pulitzer in the 1930s for being a Soviet puppet and flat out denying the Holomdor in Ukraine.

We can go to the founding fathers as well and their attitude about journalism as well. Just because they out in freedom of the press doesn't mean that they believed that the media was truthful then. You should read what Benjamin Franklin said about the media. Fun stuff.
