Comic books were created for young people back when the only other entertainment was tv with like three stations that weren't always on air, and the radio with a bunch of shitty radio plays and terrible big band music. I'm not really the right audience for their comics and what not but it just seemed like story-wise their stuff was like the logical conclusion of the edgy kid's exercise book sketches.
I also got some strong the Walken Dead comic vibes and it cannot be overstated how much I hated that comic. So maybe it's bias but I'll stick with Berserk and Blade of the Immortal and similar man-ga stuff. They don't only have pretty good action with appealing characters but also real tear-jerking emotional moments.

Ha! The only Richard Meyer comics I've bought are two from this year about the pandemic and the riots. I thought they looked interesting and he kept the price low. I enjoy following Comicsgate drama, but I'm very rarely coaxed into backing the books.

The peak of my comics reading was about 1986 to 1993. I know almost nothing about anything after that.
