That last bit is the opposite of what an interviewer would say. If anyone was dumb enough to actually say they're not hiring someone for being mentally ill, they have grounds to get their asses legit sued for discrimination. No need to bring it up anyway, since Spooner would have to provide some kind of medical evidence that he's legit disabled in a way that requires special accommodation, and his ailments are all really just complications of shutting himself in his dark troll hole, doing nothing, and never sleeping.

A simple "don't call us, we'll call you" always gets the job done, although a fast food joint would probably still hire him. There's always a few greasy spoons in every town that are willing to hire the dregs of society. Maybe he could get shanked by one of his coworkers who's a former prison inmate, assuming he didn't ragequit first.
