That doesn't sound right at all. it's been over 70 years since the end of war. What possible laws imposed by allies could still hold any value now? I never understood the ridiculous censorship of their porn, especially since they're into all sorts of kink, but I've gathered that if they wanted to change the laws, they would've by now. Could it be that japanese just like to pretend that they're oficially above all that dirty stuff?

I know it's a shitpost and a lupapost, but this is kind of what I'm talking about. The scariest thing to a "civilized man" is an unknown "savage." Or you could say the scariest thing to a person of x culture is an individual of y culture.

We only have to look at the mudslimes of today to see that in action. A normal huwhite westerner isn't going to behead you and rape your bitch for basically no reason.

Lovecraft was constantly using east islanders, swamp people and rural americans to invoke fear. His audience were primarily city-living huwhites. You can say it's cheap and easy but the human horror element in his stories were usually subservient to the eldrich monsters.

I have no earthly idea what you're talking about. Doesn't change much either way. It's been relatively common knowledge among anime geeks since at least the mid 90s.

Short answer is that they had an entire constitution forced on them and that they had other things they were more concerned with, any of which could raise an international problem. Off the top of my head, Kendo was also outlawed and they were a mite more concerned about getting something that would flat-out die in a generation back. The whole mess also goes a long way to explain the whole "the katana is the bestest everest sword ever" thing if you look at it.

Other side is that it's kind of worked out for them, economically speaking, and the laws are kind of dumb to start. For example, and for some reason, apparently the only thing technically outlawed in terms of prostitution is coitus, so they found other things to do. Etc. The only people to actually care about the porn industry would be the industry itself, and they can make just as much money without raising a probably-doomed political stink if they just use workarounds.

I see, so even though it's a silly thing that has been dictated to them a long time ago, nobody cares enough to change it?

Everybody watches porn. Which is why I've assumed that japanese are probably too upstuck to openly talk about it, even though the censorship is highly embarrasing.

They have censorship like mosaic censoring of genitalia because of ridiculous censorship laws. Nobody likes them. Nobody wants to change them, though, because they'd risk being publicly accused of degeneracy
