Fightan is the only genre that you have to just play it to get better. You can read all the combos you want but it always feels different than described or seen.

I sometimes see the Daigo parry clip and stop everything I'm doing to watch it and my wife doesn't get it and it's difficult to explain it to someone who's never tried to put in the work to learn just one character on a competitive level.

Arena shooters and tactical ones are almost games you have to play to get anywhere with, but actual real knowledge of tactics, having good eyesight, and steady frame rate are, like, half the battle there.

Arena shooters are all about just playing. Doesn't matter if you know the item timings if you can't get there in time or get pwned constantly.

Competitive games against humans favor hours played over any other metric imo. You can't learn from theory. It works the same for martial arts, ironically. You need the muscle memory and the learned experience to carry in your head multiple thread flowcharts so you can see ahead of what's happening.

Whereas Dank Souls, you can absorb 90% of mastery from just reading and watching bideos, because there's zero execution. Parries are the only element of Souls that requires execution and they're optional.

The pigroach sucks so bad at fightan games because he a) refuses to put any time in and b) has a bad attitude towards learning in general. So the only fighting game he can play semi-decently is one where he relies on 20 year old setplay with simplistic patterns.
