Like any shonenshit that doesn't know when to fuck off, Nurutu's "good parts" are frontloaded and the whole franchise rested on some okay bits that came out when standards were lower. See also: Star Wars.

Now I don't follow anime or anything, but I have to question the sanity of the masochists that religiously follow One Piece...

Japan has a number of story focused long runners that just perplex me, like OP or Detective Conan. Like they're both supposed to have an actual end goal but they get sidetracked 5ever and continue to bilk kids out of yen for decades.
Im ashamed to admit I watched the 4yids dub of OP as a kid and liked it.

Unrelated but I remember being confused by Sanji's cigarette > lollipop edit in the 4kids version. I just assumed it was a ciggy in the first place.

I'd say Detective Conan is a lot worse in that regard, since the whole detective stuff means you can prolong the series with an arbitary amount of filler cases, ignorign whatever overarching plot this show supposedly has.
At least the blokes in OP are always moving towards a clear goal. However long it'll take them to get there.
