Thing that Blob doesn't understand, despite being a fucking movie critic, is that February is usually when studios dump films like Birds of Prey that they know are going to stink up the place. Awards season is finished and it's still months away from summer blockbuster season when other studios are going to be putting out all their biggest films.

As for Birds of Prey itself, everyone and his mother could see it was going to do shit. It's a little known property outside of comic fandom. It's a sequel to WE WUZ Suicide Squad which was incredibly shit and only did okay because, like Birds, they put it on during a period where nothing else big was on. The film features Blacked Canary and a Harley Quinn who has so little resemblance to the character that she would be unremarkable if she wasn't played by a major A-list star. Even the fucking godawful TV series they did twenty years earlier had more resemblance to the source material.

Another difference is that the makers of the Sanic movie didn't call fans evil right wing incel terrorists when they made fun of Sonic's early derptasitic look and shit choice in trailer music.

It's still embarrassing as fuck, though. A super hero movie, in an age where comic movies are like printing money, loses out to a video game movie about a character who hasn't been relevant in years.
