Cult classics aren't going to be a thing in the future. In the 80's/90's you could make a midbudget movie that didn't make back its production costs but could still make it back in rentals and VHS sales. But nowadays, most people stream and companies aren't pricing their services to make money. So even if Disney+ pushed The Marvels so hard that everyone who had Disney+ were required to watch it before they could watch anything else, Disney only makes the $8-15/mo they normally do.
Also the fact that the MCU is so convoluted means that even when capeshit goes the way of the cowboy movie, it's not going to be the movie you pull out for your grandkids to show them what you watched when you were their age. They have to sit through multiple movies and TV shows to even know who these characters are.

On the off chance you can pull off a cult classic - the second word gets out, that shit will get milked. They're doing a "Jennifer's Body" reboot - for example.

That's not new, there's an American Psycho 2, Big Lebowski spin-off, and Donnie Darko sequel. All of them suck and prove Hollywood doesn't get how cult classics work.CuckTurdginson wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:35 amOn the off chance you can pull off a cult classic - the second word gets out, that shit will get milked. I still haven't seen American Psycho 2 - that seems like a unique kind of awful movie.
The Lebowski spinoff at least seems like Turturro kind of wanted to do it - even if it sucks fucking dick.

>make Big Lebowski spin-off based on a one-scene wonder
Thrilling.
Thrilling.

Turturro apparently directed, too...there are claims that the Coens took a pass on the script. Would be astonishing if this is what broke them up.

Re: Mathew "Film Bald" Buck
Why did playing a pederast speak to Turturro so much that he wanted the character to have his own spin-off movie?
