You misread me. My point was that the dude was making out like he was some kind of insider. Imagine some rando self-publishes a novella, amassing a little fame for it (like a segment on their local news or some shit). Then some rumors start up about a much bigger name, someone people actually know, and the self-published fucker starts posturing on Twatter about "oh yes, those of us in the literature community herp derp ect". It'd be like that.

You might be amazed how often exactly this happens. I've known guys (two in person, a lot more secondhand) who will begin every discussion even remotely writing-related with the words "As a published author, I can tell you..."

This crap usually starts before they even have the first print run back from the vanity publisher.
