Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
Dammit. Maybe the software I'm using to mount the CD drive isn't good enough.
Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
The Super NES was pretty limited by its CPU compared to the Genesis, which had a much faster processor despite being launched two years earlier. That's why none of the SNES Final Fights (and most beat-'em-ups on the console for that matter) could display more than three enemies on-screen (in contrast to the original arcade Final Fight, which could get display as many as eight enemies on-screen). The first game tried to make up for it by buffing enemy attacks, adding more stopping points and changing the overall placement of items and enemies (the Guy version has its own item/enemy placement by the way). It really only resembles the arcade version in a rather superficial sense (although, the same could be said about many 8/16-bit arcade ports).rabidtictac wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2017 11:33 amThe more I play around with Genesis beat em ups, the more convinced I become that it's still one of the best consoles for brawlers. I didn't like Golden Axe 1 at all, but Golden Axe 2 is perfectly functional (and quite impressive for its age) and the 3rd game is legitimately fantastic. Streets of Rage 1 is a masterpiece of brawling design. It's hard without being a quarter muncher like arcade Final Fight 1 was, and the 3 character choices play very differently. Weapon and item drops last FOREVER on the ground and you can usually recover a weapon that's been knocked from your hands, rather than have it vanish on you. The wrestling/grappling system is at least as deep as Final Fight, but it's more useful because "Holly Wood" and other cheating bastards aren't constantly swarming you in armies of 8 or more at a time.
SoR 2 is all that + better visuals, music and more moves.
Comix Zone is pretty dope, but I always found it hard as fuck. Also lel, that Final Fight port without Guy in it? Nerd likes that one? That shit was so bad they had to release a special "Final Fight GUY" version. I can see why he'd like it though, because I've seen footage of it before playing the Arcade version and as far as I can tell, it has WAY less enemies.
All things considered, I still enjoyed them for what they were (except for Final Fight 2, which I always found to be rather dull) and there's plenty of other good beat-'em-ups on the SNES as well. Batman Returns and Turtles in Time were also pretty good (in fact, I would argue the SNES Turtles in Time is actually better than the arcade, even without 4P co-op) and Ninjawarriors Again is an underrated classic.

The Ninja Warriors Again is fucking great. A bit unorthodox since it's a pure sidescroller, but boy does it make use of those two directions.

Seems like guestposting wasn't a mistake after all.

Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
The SNES did have a fair few amount of enhancement chips like the Super FX and SA1 that clocks the processor up to double digit MHZs amongst a lot of other benefits but they weren't used that widely and limited to few games.
I've never been a fan of Comix Zone personally, I think it's a terribly designed game that is a Frankensteinian abortion of Beat-em-up cum Adventure game, and it succeeds at neither.
I doubt he's ever played Final Fight arcade so he can't tell the difference. He's one of those plebs that plays fighting games on 16-bit consoles after all.
I'd like Golden Axe 3 if it weren't for a fatal flaw: the half-arsed block system. It wouldn't be bad if they actually mapped it ergonomically but having to press back and A to block is impossible if you're in the midst of a swing and as such makes fluent combat nonexistent. It's technically better than GA1 and GA2 in many ways but by 3 I was bored of the series, 3 really adds nothing new and gets rid of the best character: Gilius. Revenge of Deathadder is still the best GA game.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2017 11:33 amThe more I play around with Genesis beat em ups, the more convinced I become that it's still one of the best consoles for brawlers. These kind of videos are why I like James: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL2MY-9gN_A&t=0s
He's just talking about things that are interesting, and is very genuine about it. That's all I want from good entertainment. It's a shame that there is one such video to 20 others where Mike Matei is being terrible at some video game.

I remember someone posting a video of a Darth Vader Christmas decoration that said "Luke, I am your father" as proof that it was in the movie instead of "no, I am your father".
They rank close to Sovereign Citizens in the lolcow category.
