If this game had come out and been billed as the spiritual sequel to Vagrant Story, nobody would have complained.

That's the problem, though. Breath of Fire fans are expecting something that reminds them of Breath of Fire.
It'd be like taking Minecraft and making it into a Telltale game-- the majority of the fans of the original game wouldn't care for it and it'd only sell, at all, because of people buying it due to the name on it.

Telltale sucks shit in general though. A better comparison would be Final Fantasy compared with Final Fantasy Tactics. Though I realize that it's unfortunate BoF V has the official name and numeral, because a lot of people won't give the game a chance.

I mean, it sucks. It was a marketing fuckup. They should have billed the game as a spinoff and they should have promoted it as a spiritual successor to Vagrant Story and the fine tradition of dungeon crawlers. "Resident Evil meets King's Field" or something.

But the game itself is magnificent imo. Incredible soundtrack. For the time period, the visuals were very high-quality thanks to the cell shading. The battle system is deep and challenging enough to create some real nail-biting scenarios, especially boss fights. The dragon form, limited inventory and save tokens/restore create a risk-reward to the game which imbues a lot of "horror" type decision-making.

You'd think people would have warmed up to Dragon Quarter after all the souls games blew the fuck up. Dragon Quarter, Vagrant Story and SMT 3 Nocturne were dank souls before dank souls existed.

Back to DSP, we got some good shit for the future. August has been bad. His patreon is $200 below the goal, and not meeting it, according to him, means no halloween marathon, lel.

It's obvious to me that a) he won't make his patreon goal b) he'll lie and claim he did make and you just can't "see" the "real" numbers and c) shit's only going downhill from here.

His viewership on DSPGaming has fucking TANKED. He used to get 10k-15k on part 1 of a video. Now? Maybe 5-7k. For his subscriber count, that's so fucking bad. A lot of his day-one let's play parts of new games have 300-600 views. Abysmal. Some of his SFII shit has 130 fucking views.

NOBODY is watching his shit. He claims viewership has been steady but his profit is just down. He's lying. Viewership is way the fuck down. It makes sense because all his legit fans watch on Twitch now and the youtube videos are just Twitch shit reuploaded with a billion more fucking ads.

He talks about wanting to go 100% Twitch, but that's a very dangerous proposition. He's been getting real mouthy and pushy about donating to him. He now demands you donate tips aka direct-to-account money, rather than tips, bits, subs or whatever. He tells people to donate on Patreon because Patreon takes a smaller cut. He says he won't stop begging until he "hammers the point home" and that he needs to "light a fire" under some asses. This is how he talks about ASKING FOR FREE MONEY.

And the more he does this shit, the closer he comes to being so blatant that Twitch gets pissed off. He's already been warned by twitch after a bunch of people flagged his account. Obviously Twitch will let him slide with a lot because he's making them money. However, for example, recently some detractors found out that one of his fans turned 13 and just gave all his birthday money to DSP. That and the way DSP has been talking about requiring donations to pay his billth... It's totally possible he could cross a line even Twitch wouldn't like.

Or he could just get a ban for being racist or sexist in current year. He got banned from Blip for that.

TL;DR his income is way down and his proposed solution is to hitch himself 100% to a website that could drop him tomorrow for any number of reasons.

The thing is, Phil is currently making so much money on Twitch, he doesn't care about the ramifications of putting all his eggs on the same basket. Only when Twitch gives him the Blip treatment (and, to be fair, that may never happen) he'll realize how fucked he is.

He is bragging that he got the OK from Twitch to ebeg for cheers and tips, but this being Phil, nobody knows for sure.

Phil will run out of money sooner or later but the real question is why is he doing something in the meanwhile that is not profitable for him? The average salary for US worker apparently seems to be around 3000 bucks a month (after tax). When I look at his patreon that is not even after tax and they also take a cut. If thats gone one day then he probably wont be able to sustain basic living needs anymore. If anything the drama is keeping him alive and probably some trolls who don't wanna see him gone paying to his patreon. I don't remember when he started doing that multiple video parts spam but thats also an indication he was tight on money. Or maybe just greedy but then you also alienate your fans with the spam.

According to other dramasite he is rich goy with 5000$ a month but they forgot simple things like patreon taking a cut and taxes on that so I think its very unrealistic. If he made that much you could count on Pandaleee sucking the shit out of his asshole. Its not like Panda is brilliant and nice person to get something better, might aswell stick to your fate but atleast you have nice kitchen and never to worry about money. She was a greedy cunt aswell always going out eating and expensive hotels and stuff. I highly doubt Phil would want to go out eating nice stuff when all he does is eat garbage fast food anway and never leaves house other than to get vidya and food.

I can see why Capcom stopped caring about the series if you look at it stricly from business perspective. 3 million sales across the entire franchise is a death sentence in modern times for a proper 3D RPG and also not a lot to make huge marketing campaigns. BOF5 was probably the last attempt to break free by changing it drastically and why they named it a mainline game. It would have gotten even less sales if it was a spinoff.

At least I don't buy the simple explanation from devs "we wanted a harder game". They probably had Capcom breathing down their necks or whoever funds these and wanted some decent sales this time. A changed formula and one last shot at it was better than trying to get similar sales with same formula again which would have been a 100% dropped franchise.

I guess the reason why you don't see them going to kickstarter is because the original development team/s scattered long ago and they couldn't even make a proper one if they had the money.

I don't know if I should find it odd or hypocritical how nasty the anti DSP community was towards PandaLee but the second she broke up with Phil suddenly she's a detractor now and they're showing her sympathy. It's not really a secret that the anti DSP community sometimes despised Leanna more than Phil. It's kind of a weird flip flop to me.
