Also confusing and/or nonsensical as fuck. You can watch episode after episode and still don't get what the show is trying to tell you. And if that's not enough, there are completely unrelated gag shorts that make even less sense.

Though it is a bit different in terms of budget: While NGE blew nearly all of its load early on and then went on to generate a shitload of profit, Nichijou had a way too high budget (spent "wisely" on famous guest VAs, very realistic-looking scenery shots for eye catchers, hyper-animated gags, and of course a different or modified ending song like every three episodes), only for the DVD sales to tank hard because the humor is niche as fuck.

It's like this was the pet project of some studio boss, and none of his underlings could bring himself to tell him they should cut the budget at least in half if they ever want to get a profit out of it.

I mean, just watch this shit and tell me this was animation budget well spent:
