I think he just watched his older brother play these old games he pretends to have grown up with. I'm almost exactly Noah's age, and Xcom was fucking incomprehensible to a 10 year old me. but I still enjoyed watching my friends brothers play it. He might not even remember that he never actually played these games in any serious way. He's pretty stupid.

This is a very likely possibility, especially when you consider how bad he is when playing those type of games today. He doesn’t even understand how to play the old Fallout games, even though he professes a love for old school gaming. I understand if gamers who play modern Fallout find those 2D ones incomprehensible, but Spoony says he used to love those 2D Ultima games, which could be argued are even more janky and weird than Fallout 1 and 2 are.

But he has a meltdown almost immediately upon exiting the Vault in Fallout 2. It’s not surprising that he seriously embellished his skills as a gamer, and probably never actually played stuff like original X-COM or System Shock 1 as a kid.

If I remember right he even said he'd only watch his older brother play Ultima and he got to play with his party which he then got completely wrecked. Hope they saved the game beforehand.
