Do stay away from /tv/, then. Because now that Disney destroyed Star Wars, suddently the prequels are work of geniuses and we should all apologize to Lucas.Guru Larry wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2017 7:17 pm
That would be quite a good subject, Had some really angry GL fanboys hurl abuse at me as I called him a "twat" in one of my recent videos. But yeah, he's royally fucked up quite a few games.
That Darth Maul game LucasArts were working on sounded amazing too.

But they are masterpieces, and the only reason almost everyone in the entire world started hating them is because of RLM. It's so obvious.
On a more serious note: If you think your main weapon against the new trilogy is the prequel trilogy (instead of, you know, the original fucking trilogy), you have already lost.

This a million times. The fucking contrarianism is getting fucking obnoxious there.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2017 7:51 amBut they are masterpieces, and the only reason almost everyone in the entire world started hating them is because of RLM. It's so obvious.

Re: Guru Larry
RLM uploaded their content in late '07 and from '01 to '04 there was a negative response to the prequels. Not the hyperdramatic "my childhood was raped" kind. More like the "George, you sure made a goof".
I think South Park had an episode where some stereotypical nerds were fighting over a copy of Phantom Menace while the kids claimed that it sucked cocks.
And the first episode of the second season of Spaced had a solid 5 minutes of George Lucas bashing from one of the resident nerds.
The field was divided into two teams: hardcore fans that were legitimately distraught because this was not the magical adventure they expected and normies who went "well that was a waste of time I wonder what's on TV...". Movies were not part of the culture wars and hysteria wasn't the norm.
So to say that RLM made the whole world hate with pure seething rage the prequels is stretching it. Now what DID happen was, the normies became boomers and did not give a flying fuck about nerd shit and the kids became millenials who were raised on angry reviewing so now the mainstream opinion is an overexagerated version of the films based on word of mouth.
Fuck, even zombie simpsons in 2004, in the episode Co-Dependent's day made fun of how bad the prequels were. Did RLM also "infect" the writers mind retroactively?

Re: Guru Larry
The fanboys defending the prequels at the time would use the excuse, "These movies are just as good as the originals, it's just that YOU that have changed." RLM basically said, "No, fuck you. The prequels were MUCH worse and it is George Lucas that has changed. And here is why."
And at that point, everyone that was on the fence realized RLM was right.
But these days we've got idiot millennial internet "journalists" that make contrarian articles just to get clicks. "The prequels are actually gENIUZZ! Muh Ring Theory!"

Did George Lucas really change though? Return of the Jedi was a good sign of what was to come

Re: Guru Larry
By the time Jedi happened, yes he had changed. People debate why that is, but one big thing is that his wife cuckolded him with the Skywalker Ranch handyman. He had to pay her a shitload in divorce.

Re: Guru Larry
Jedi was worse than the other two, but it's still much better than the prequels. I think George did change in the years between Jedi and the prequels. He became a movie star, basically, and had vanloads of dickriders in his staff who would just say yes to whatever he wanted because "he created star wars." It was a cult.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2017 4:30 pmDid George Lucas really change though? Return of the Jedi was a good sign of what was to come
Jedi should have been the wake-up call. "Hey, we got lucky and this movie was received well, but look at all this shit that made it into the movie that's pretty cringeworthy in retrospect. If we ever do this again, let's try to reign in some of that excess."
But that wasn't what happened. Lucas took the success of the original 3 films as a sign that those excesses which were shitty (Ewoks, pointless cutesy kid shit, stormtroopers becoming jokes more than ever before, 3 different stories happening at the same time with different sets of characters for the entire fucking finale) were actually great. Not only great, but the reason why people liked star wars! So naturally, Jar Jar. Jar Jar was just the fucking Ewok shit turned to 11. Even as a kid, I always found the Ewok detour annoying. I wanted to see what Luke was doing. The other stories were boring and pointless.
Jedi is about 1/2 to 1/3rd of a great movie, mixed in with a lot of other stuff that's either bad or pointless.

Re: Guru Larry
That fucking theory. If there was some ancient, almost primordial storytelling construct that guaranteed SW-tier success, every single movie in the last couple decades would've been made exactly like that.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2017 4:25 pmBut these days we've got idiot millennial internet "journalists" that make contrarian articles just to get clicks.
