That ties into the ego thing. It's like when Spoony calls himself an actor and filmmaker and all sorts of shit, they get to feel like they made more than just some videos on the internet. Larry is Gen X as well so it seems to be a thing with that generation to see the internet as a place for failures (they aren't entirely wrong there ) while "the real world" is TV, Books and physical media. That generation grew up when that shit was king and they can't let go.

Anyone releasing a book in the current year is an asshole. If you've got something into say that's interesting or revelatory just make a blogpost or a video. If you want to write fiction then don't bother at all. Prose is dead. GitGud is a better writer than all of you.
