All these e-celebs with no official contracts or agreements with anyone. One day they could wake up and be totally fucked out of the blue with no legal recourse. Guess that's how they want it though.

I wish that would happen. They'd post on twitter and cry on youtube how betrayed they feel that Funimation would do this. Fans would call for a boycott and thumb down all their videos. But they'll still keep watching Dragon Ball Super.

Of course they'll cry and whine and talk about how the evil corporations endager their "business".

Speaking of business: Why do these internet nobodies always gravitate towards one-sided business models that purely rely on the goodwill / indifference of the other side?

They don't see what's wrong with that. Before they did that they were in school and living with their parents. They are used to rely on allowances.
How would it work differently anyway? An actual business that's selling something relies on the goodwill of their customers. They don't have any customers in the first place since nobody buys internet videos. Payacon only works once they are established, not before that.
It's the same with kickstarter. If your product is too shitty to get actual investors and you don't have enough confidence in it to take a loan, go ask random morons on the internet that understand even less about business to foot the bill. They keep getting away with that shit.

The key difference is that relying on a third party takes control away from you. They could have their most amazingly successful year ever and still get wrecked if say Youtube or Funimation decide to change their mind.
At least if they fail because of their fans are fleeing in droves, it's probably their own fault.

The fun thing about business is that to start one you need loads of money. They didn't but it came at the price of always beeing reliant on YT and copyright owners. Quite frankly, I think this whole situation is just like the dotcom hype. The bubble is bursting and that kinda "business" is going to disappear again.
Being able to make money with this kinda shit is a fluke. YT overpaid, advertisers overpaid. Nobody could really gauge the worth of internet nobody entertainment. Currently, the realization is setting in that it really isn't worth anything at all.

You almost always rely on some kind of third party. But usually, you have actual contracts. These tools didn't ever make any contracts or only really shitty ones like many internet nobodies did with Machinima and such.
It's not really a new phenomenon. Small bands have gotten fucked over like that since forever with shitty record deals. They are desperate to do something "fun" for a living.

It's like blip, those people were making a killing there, YouTube over paid with its ads as well. Times are changing and even people like Larry can make it with a little effort, and he said he makes like $100 per 25k views, his videos easily get over 200k in a week.

There's a lot more people watching stuff online and it's easier than ever to get more viewers, and these advertisers don't want to pay for the increase.

Also unless you have over a million subs the let's play is dead on YouTube, all the tank top cat eared girls moved to twitch as those people play the "hypest" game and act like idiots for donations

I think the most important thing Kugel said is about overpaying. Everyone overpaid at the start with e-celeb spergevideos. DSP admitted this openly. These fuckers were making absurd amounts of money, way beyond what paltry income their videos could generate via ads, and the advertisers were probably overpaying a shitload as well because they didn't understand how valueless spergevideos are.

These babies cry about YouTube, or advertisers leaving, or whatever the fuck. But what did they expect? Did they think their market would remain totally stable for 40 years, when they're uploading their videos FOR FREE in whatever length or filesize they want, using someone else's service, and relying on their goodwill to be allowed to generate income? DSP has said "people need to make a living on YouTube." NEED TO? Do they have a right to YouTube? "Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and uploading videos to make income on youtube?" Shit is ridiculous.

They act like their shit is a business, but mostly it's all donation-based. Even when they sell shitty shirts or mugs, those are essentially donations from fans. You wouldn't buy those items at those prices if they were hanging in a shop. Patreon is a pure donation. Crowdfunding for reviews and shit (ClassicGameRoom) may as well be a donation because that greedy fuck is going to make videos whether or not you give him money. YouTube ads? More like youtube donations from advertisers too dumb to realize how much they're overpaying these e-celebs (and youtube.)

The no contracts thing is the icing on the cake. Get ready to get fucked with the paradigm shifts.

I've heard people say Twitch is the future for e-celebs to make money, and that it's more stable than youtube right now. But it looks like another fad to me. I predict it'll either go away like Blip did or become much less profitable. Relying on subs, bits, cheers etc just encourages only hardcore fans to stick around. Casual viewers have no reason to give money.

Twitch belongs to Amazon so it's there to stay. But that market is going to get purged hard with all the YT faggots going there, causing more competition.
Twitch, for the streamers, has the problem that the viewership will spread thin. You can easily watch ten new videos from your favourite Youtubers each day. You can't watch ten streamers each day, much less donate to all of them regularly. It won't be long until you can't make a living from that either anymore if you're not HUGE.
