We all feel fear sometimes and that's the same primal fear that the animals have.
Maybe the only difference is the "trigger" tolerance. One of my cats just wasn't domesticated properly for some reason and so loud sounds or sudden movements will trigger a flight response from him. Whereas the other one knows he's safe in the house and doesn't react like that.

There's a lot of shit that can happen. Which is why you stay alert. But if you stay paranoid, that's not a beneficial survival strategy. It's why animals are cautious when you offer them food, but they'll still take it if you wait long enough. They're even more trusting if you've shown yourself to be a reliable source of food. The crows around here come flying in from blocks away when I open the door. They're not domesticated animals either and they are a prey species compared to some animals.
