I carried a basic Parker ball pen. Because when you are actually important you have to sign a lot of things and most of those you need a ball pen for for the copies.
Signing a lot of things, you'll quickly learn that nothing disappears as easily as a pen at work. I still have that pen, after now about ten years of service. You'll learn to watch your pen like a hawk.

That just tells me that he didn't sing many things. Nobody signs shit with a fountain pen. Especially not actual contacts.

I would assume the only business they get is from people who live and shop in the area or who want to meet the shaggy dumbass from the internet. (There are always a few.) You don't go to used game shops expecting deals in this day and age. I always assume if I'm after an old gem that I'm going to have to at least pay full retail for it even if it's not in it's original case and doesn't have a booklet and is so scratched up Mad Bum probably sold it to them in the first place.

The pen was actually a gift by Jacobs Douve Egberts, a coffee company. Instead of the all steel construction, the front part is plastic with only the tip being steel.
It's got the functionality but looks way cheaper, which made it such a great pen for work, as people would be unlikely to steal it.

Low profile, functional and cheap to replace if it should break or get lost is the name of the game for any work items in retail. That is something you learn very quickly if you actually work. Let something sit somewhere for a second and it's gone, taken by some customer.

The only time I break that rule is with knives, because I'm a knife fag. But I always keep them on my person at all times.

Unless you're rich you should be beaten for owning a pen that costs more than a few bucks. I splurge on gel ink pens coz they so smooth and sexy, but if you pull out a $200 Montblanc like you're somebody and you're not a lawyer or mob accountant you deserve to have your balls blasted into dust by the nastiest Asian dominatrix money can buy.
