Why do I have the feeling that Mechakara is just him walking like a robot without any effort to look any different?

That's just Lewis playing himself. As Linkara, he has to fake that he has normal human emotions.

The movie (which I think was his final appearance) also featured a full robot form which doesn't really look particularly good.

The fucking eyes on that thing where just hilarious, took away any threat the character could have had.

Also, sad to say, at the post credits stinger (Because he had to have two) you see the 'robot hand' twitch so yeah, he'll be coming back.

And it's not like was particularly threatening to begin with. Like basically all of his villains, he's just some smug schemer who maybe gets to punch Linkara every now and then.

I'm under the impression that Lewis is closer to Evelyn (90's kid), at least the movie version of that character, acting like an idiot so that people underestimate you, in other words an antisocial asshole that has the know how and skills but is not bothered to use them to help people if they don't ask him first.

The kind of pathological hero fantasy, that when everyone is in peril he will save everybody in the last possible moment. A person that could help before everything gone to shit, preventing something but didn't act because of some fake modesty shit and the love for spectacle. His love for cosplay and including every possible super hero/ pop-cultural reference into his stuff can also be linked to that.
