Well, where the fuck do you go from a movie that has the premise of "There can only be one!" and seeking to answer who that one will be by the end?
Prequels! Like "Ramirez: A Highlander Story".
And just like that, despite shitposting, you had a better idea than the writer of Highlander 2.

It's a franchise that really shouldn't had existed in the first place. Highlander 1 was pretty self-contained and left no room for a sequel, so Part 2 basically ignored most of the first film's backstory and made the immortals into aliens. Part 3 serves as a direct sequel to Part 1 that ignores Part 2, the TV show serves as a sequel to Part 1 that retcons the ending so that The Gathering was just a mini-Gathering and Part 4 is basically a movie version of the TV show. The Highlander canon is all fucked-up.
Holy fuck, that sounds even worse than what they've done to the Halloween series.

Seriously, what is it about Highlander that led it to having so many crappy sequels? Did Panzer-Davis ever believe in quality control? The only good things to come out from that franchise were the original movie, the TV show and the anime. Everything else was unnecessary trash.
Maybe it's the Sanic of live-action franchises, though I don't actually know anything about the complex and intricate Highlander fandom.

Even the TV show turned to crap in the end. Panzer-Davis got greedy and thought they had a cash cow franchise that they could milk with spinoffs and movies. Thus the TV series never had a satisfying conclusion.

It must've been profitable enough to just keep going. Kinda like Saw.

I remember when Highlander: The Source was about to come out, Adrian Paul wouldn't answer if the movie was the best Highlander film.
I doubt there was much of an effort to promote that movie, seeing how it was supposed to be released theatrically and it ended up being relegated to a direct-to-Syfy première. I remember reading somewhere that the documentaries included with the Highlander The Raven DVD set also had most of the cast and crew bashing the show.
